How to Choose a Ball
The ball is the primary object in a basketball game. Basketball is usually played both indoors and outdoors. Whatever your level, it will allow you to dribble, shoot, practice individually and play matches with others. When buying basketball equipment, there are several main things to look at.
The size of the ball differs with age and sex. It should thus be adapted accordingly. Another factor to consider is whether you’re picking out a ball to play indoors or outdoors. Certain sizes are designed for corresponding ages and sexes. They include:
- Aged 3 and over: size 1
- 4 to 6 years: size 3
- 7 to 12 years: size 5
- Women aged 12 and over: size 6
- Men aged 12 and over: size 7
There also are specific indoor balls which are designed for a court with flooring of different kinds (parquet, synthetic flooring, etc). Outdoor balls in their turn are designed for playing on abrasive surfaces (asphalt, concrete, and others).
Balls for basketball also differ in materials they are maae from. There are mainly 3 different materials used in making a basketball. These materials are, leather, synthetic and rubber. Each one is made of different purposes and has different lengths of durability on various surfaces.
The details above will come in really handy when choosing which type of basketball to purchase. Whether you play indoors or outdoors; on wood, concrete or asphalt; for competition or recreation; whether you are on a budget or looking for the best ball money can buy; you will be able to use this guide in choosing which basketball is best for you. But, with everything in mind, my personal favorite is a synthetic, full size, traditional color basketball because it can be used for almost anything.
